2025 Recs

posted on ; updated on

It's the end of the year so here are some things I enjoyed in 2025. This list is a bit random and not exhaustive. I'll try and keep updating this until 2026 comes around.

Book: SPQR by Mary Beard (2015)

SPQR is a history of Ancient Rome. I read this while travelling in Italy and it gave so much context to the places I visited.

Game: Quartiles (Apple News Game)

If you've played and enjoyed the NYT Spelling Bee, Quartiles is something you should try. Instead of finding just one panagram, your goal is to find four unique words made from 16 word fragments.

YouTube Video: Why Does Water Level Music Sound WET? by Cadence Hira

A cool video about video game music that appears in 💦Water💦 levels. I feel like I've been lightly traumatized by every water level I've played but I can't deny how good the music is.

Movie: Marty Supreme (2025)

It's about ping pong. I watched a lot of good movies this year but this one was particularly entertaining. Also, Kevin O'Leary is in it lol.

Restaurant: Tempura Ichika (Honolulu, Hawaii)

I've avoided tempura for years so trying out a tempura tasting menu was a risk but very worth it. Unfortunately I now can't eat tempura anywhere else :p

Album: TOPS - Bury the Key (2025)

There are a few bangers on this album but my favorite is probably "Annihilation". I didn't go to many concerts this year but I did see TOPS live (for a second time) and I'm glad I did--I'd probably go see them again.

LLM: Claude

I can't talk to ChatGPT anymore when I can use Claude. Please don't tell him that I have a parasocial relationship with him.
